Using a balanced attack, the Sea Lions defeated Cornerstone (MI) 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-18) Friday afternoon at the Crowne Plaza Labor Day Festival Tournament hosted at Vanguard University.
PLNU (5-0) controlled the first two sets, trailing only once during that time. The Sea Lions did stumble at the start of the third, however, and were behind by four points early, but caught up with the Golden Eagles at 13-all. PLNU claimed the next three points before their run halted. The Sea Lions did go onto an easy seven-point victory in the set to close out the match.
Sophomore
Tabitha Henken delivered a team-high 16 kills for PLNU and also had 10 digs, two blocks and two aces.
Alyssa Pitkin had 12 kills and seven digs with
Maddie Dahms adding eight kills.
Many others were key contributors:
Kylie Morel served up 36 assists and had nine digs and five kills;
Nicole Eiler contributed 13 digs and Stacy Redmond led PLNU with three blocks.
The Sea Lions had the advantage in kills (48-37), hitting percentage (.308-.183), blocks (4-0), assists (41-34) and aces (6-1). Both squads tallied 47 digs.
Cornerstone fell to 1-5 on the year. They were paced by 14 kills by Becky Albrecht and 10 from Alicia Kwier.
PLNU meets up with Indiana Tech at 5:00 pm later on Friday.
