BOX GAME ONE | BOX GAME TWO

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – Tyler Kuehl and Shain Stoner were the hitting stars in Point Loma Nazarene's sweep of The Master's Wednesday at Reese Field. The Sea Lions took the opener 14-6 in ten innings and then claimed a 9-3 win in the nightcap.

Kuehl hit for the cycle in PLNU's game one triumph and bashed a solo shot in game two. The senior second baseman had four of his team's 15 hits in the opener and drove in six runs. Kuehl's cycle came in the form of a double in the third, a single in the fifth, a home run in the seventh and a triple in the tenth.

Kuehl started the year slowly and was recently near the .200 level. But in the last couple of weeks the Sea Lion slugger has caught fire. It's not a coincidence that PLNU has moved from ninth place in the Golden State Athletic Conference standings to fourth, winning seven of their last eight contests.

Even more impressively, the Sea Lions which had a terrible time on the road, have now won three of four away from Point Loma.

Game one saw the Sea Lions snapping a 6-6 tie by sending ten men to the plate and scoring eight runs in the top of the tenth. Clinton Harwick coaxed a bases loaded walk to score the go-ahead run but Loma was just getting started. Kendall Konopka followed with a walk to force in another run; Allen Boyer doubled in two; Kuehl tripled in two more; Scott Stidham walked and Molina belted a three-run homer to end the barrage.

Maurice Wilhelm (2-2) was the winner though he surrendered a run in the ninth, sending the game into extra frames and costing starter Garrett Levsen a win. Levsen lasted 6.2 frames, yielding four runs on four hits. Chris Gonzales entered the game in seventh and threw 1.1 innings of one-run ball.

Point Loma jumped out to the lead after Kuehl doubled in three in the third. Harwick's fourth inning single gave the Green and Gold a 4-0 advantage.

A solo homer from Ben Ives put the Mustangs on the board in the fifth but the Sea Lions tacked on two in the seventh off of Kuehl's solo shot and a RBI single from Stoner.

The Master's charged back with a three-spot in the home half of the frame; however, highlighted by a two-run single from Spencer Downs.

Parker Price singled to lead off the Mustang ninth and advanced to second on a sac bunt. A single and a walk loaded the bases with one out. Wilhelm got the second out of the frame on strikeout but a passed ball allowed Price to score from third and tie the game.

GSAC Player of the Week Rashad Taylor had three hits in the opener while Edgar Molina went 2-for-6 with three RBI.

Point Loma completed the sweep with a 9-3 game two win. Stoner had his best game of the season. The third baseman led the team's 13-hit attack with a 4-for-5 performance, belting two doubles, two homeruns and knocking in three.  Kuehl added to his already great day by blasting his fourth round-tripper of the year.

The Sea Lions scored one run in both the first and second frames and then two more in the fourth to go ahead 4-0. TMC cut into the deficit with one in the fourth and then two more in the sixth. PLNU put the game away with another run in the sixth and four more over the last two innings.

Kelsen Boyer improved to 2-0 with a 5.1 inning stint, giving up six hits and three runs. Josh Dexheimer tossed 2.2 scoreless frames with Kellen Stewart closing the day out with a scoreless ninth.

The Sea Lions now stand at 18-14 overall, 13-12 GSAC. TMC falls to 19-18, 10-14 conference.

PLNU and TMC will complete their four-game season series with another twinbill, this time at Carroll B. Land Stadium on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
