SAN MARCOS, Calif. - Four golfers for the Point Loma men's team placed in the top 25 to lead the Sea Lions to a third place team finish with a 5-over, 869 (282-294-293) at the Cal State San Marcos Fall Classic on Tuesday (Oct. 16).
Point Loma edged The Master's College by one stroke to take third place. After shooting a 282 (-6) in the first round and a 294 (+6) in the second round, the Sea Lions shot a 1-under, 293 in the final round to maintain third place.
Oscar Casillas was PLNU's most consistent golfer throughout the tournament. He shot a 71 in the opening round and backed it up with even-par, 72s in the second and third round to finish tied for 11th (215, -1).
Zane Keith was one stroke back of Casillas with an even-par, 216 (72-69-75). He finished tied for 13th. 
Brent Hamilton finished with a three-over, 219 (68-76-75) to earn sole possession of 23rd place. 
Cole Reese came in tied for 24th with a 220 (71-77-72, +4). 
Nate Wanken rounded out the scoring for Point Loma in the third round by firing a 2-over, 74.
"The guys came out today and fought to put up a good score," said Point Loma head coach 
Zack Ponder. "I was happy with the way we played. I hope we carry that momentum to Florida (and the NCCAA Championships) and keep doing our best."
Cal State San Marcos hung on to win the team competition at 14-under (286-285-279, 850). Pontus Widegren of UCLA took the individual title at 18-under (64-66-68, 198).
