Hall of Fame
For four years, from 1989-1991 Anette Ronnerman was a one person wrecking crew on opponents in cross country and track and field. Her former teammate, PLNU Hall of Famer, Vanessa Couch Verrill, recently termed her “one of the hardest working athletes that I encountered while at college” and was “shocked” that she had not already been inducted into our Hall of Fame.
In 1991, Anette’s 2 minute and 9.43 second 800 meter dash in the NAIA National Track Meet is still the school record. The run was good for 3rd place earning Anette NAIA All-American status and a bronze medal. That year Anette led the Crusader’s track and field squad to the GSAC District Championship, taking first place in the 800 meter dash, second in the triple jump, 2nd in the 1500 meter run, and as a member of the second place 4x400 meter relay team, fourth in high jump, and tenth in long jump, Anette amassed 32 points on her own to help secure the PLNC team crown. A couple weeks later at the NAIA District 3 meet Anette again won the 800 meter dash.
Anette graduated from PLNC in 1991 with a degree in speech communications. She didn’t stop racing after graduation. Anette continues to race a decade and a half after her phenomenal college career. In 1996 Anette won the World Airlines 5,000 meter race in South Africa and in 2002 she was among the top 25 women in the Rome Marathon.
Today, Anette works as an American Airlines flight attendant based in Chicago where she lives. This enables her to compete in triathlons and road races around the world. Anette embodies “characteristics not only of athleticism, but also of dedication, integrity, and faithfulness.”
Anette we are honored to induct you this evening into the Point Loma Nazarene University Athletic Hall of Fame as an athlete in track and field and cross country. Congratulations.
