One of the most gifted and versatile athletes to don the Crusader green and gold displayed many of his talents at Pasadena College in the ‘50s. Whether it be for track, baseball or basketball, John Davis could be counted on for a quality performance. In four years on the baseball squad, Davis skillfully played nearly every position and was an invaluable fixture on the team. He was also a consistent winner in track, excelling in the 220 yard dash.

On the basketball court, Davis was smooth, deceptively quick and efficient. Combining a deadly jump shot and unbelievable driving ability, Davis became the second leading scorer in Pasadena history. His 681 points in the 1952-53 season is the third greatest by any Crusader. Davis averaged over 20 ppg that year, teaming with Bob Hopkins to lead PC to its first ever District Three Championship with a 34-2 record. A member of PC’s famed Firehouse Five, Davis ’s career record as a standout cager for the Crusaders included 86 wins in 105 games and over 2,200 points.

Davis went on to teach at John Muir High School in Pasadena where he also coached basketball.

The award for Outstanding Achievement as an Athlete was presented to Davis by Ed Davis.
