Every coach longs for consistency in the performance of athletes and when you begin with a high quality performer, that’s the way champions occur and around whom championships are built. The mental make up to strive for excellence, make intelligent club selections and to get a tiny white ball into a four-inch cup requires a special capacity for concentration to say nothing of great skill.

For four years, Jim Lundstrom demonstrated that highly trained capacity while playing golf for the Crusaders. He has been classified simply as the most consistent golfer to stroll down the fairways for PLNC.

Further evidence of that consistency is seen in his four years as a letterman and Most Valuable Player, gaining all-district honors three consecutive years, never finishing lower than fourth in the district championship and a 20th place finish at nationals. He holds the single season record for best stroke average and three of the top five season-best stroke averages in Point Loma golf history. Lundstrom went on to an amateur golf career. He was the Amateur State Champion and followed that with a second place finish the next year. Lundstrom was also the Los Angeles amateur champion in 1986 and the Southern California Public Links Champion in 1990 and 1995.

After golf, Lundstrom became a science teacher at Hale Middle School in Woodland Hills, California where he settled with his wife Linda and their daughters, Katie and Jennifer.

The award for Outstanding Achievement as an Athlete was presented to Lundstrom by Jim Bond.
