Roya Rustamzada’s freshman season for PLNU Women’s Basketball foreshadowed what would be a stellar career on The Point. The standout forward earned 2014-15 PacWest Freshman of the Year honors before taking center stage for one of the most iconic moments in program history.

In the NCAA West Regional first round, Roya scored the game-winning basket in the final seconds to stun nationally-ranked No. 1 Alaska Anchorage, which remains the program’s lone NCAA postseason victory.

The three-time All-PacWest selection capped off her career in 2017-18 by being named both the PacWest Player of the Year and Defender of the Year, while becoming the first and only All-American in the program’s NCAA era.

To this day, she remains the program leader in career rebounds with 1,009 while ranking in the top-10 in program history in several other categories, including fourth in steals with 231, fifth in assists with 379, fifth in free throw % at 76.8%, eighth in points with 1,534 and ninth in blocked shots with 105.

After her PLNU career, Rustamzada went on to play professionally for the Oaklands Wolves in the Women’s British Basketball League.
