Albert Bailey entered Pasadena College in the fall of 1956 after a successful high school career at Pasadena High School. At PHS he was an All-CIF performer in basketball, and while at Pasadena College, he played and excelled in baseball and basketball.
Bailey was selected to the Street and Smith’s All-West Coast Team as a freshman basketball player and the following year was an integral part of the 1958 District Championship team that went to Kansas City . During his junior and senior years he was the leading scorer and rebounder and for a time was ranked 12th in scoring and fifth in rebounding in the PLNU career record books.
A gifted and versatile baseball player, Bailey could hit with power. He played first base, third base, shortstop and outfield. The Los Angeles Dodgers showed interest in him during his senior year.
This two-sport athlete was selected to the All-District team in basketball and was the Meguiar Award winner in 1958-59.
Bailey graduated from Pasadena College in 1960 with a degree in business administration. He married his wife Judy and the two had three children: Douglas, Davis and Karen. He worked in the insurance business and also owned a western store called the Yellow Rose.
The award for Outstanding Achievement by an Athlete was presented to Bailey by Vern Nelson.
