Outside hitter Heather Leavitt Newman undoubtedly left her mark on the PLNU Volleyball program as it transitioned from the NAIA to NCAA Division II.
After leading the team in kills in 2013, as the Sea Lions won the National Christian College Athletic Association championship and won 30 games, she led Point Loma to its first-ever NCAA West Regional appearance in 2015.
That year, the three-time All-PacWest honoree became the first Sea Lion in any sport to be named PacWest Player of the Year.
In her career, she was twice selected as an All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, and once by both the Division II Conference Commissioners Association and the NCCAA.
She leads all Sea Lions who have played during the program’s NCAA era in career kills while ranking sixth all-time in program history in the category with 1,534.
