In 1952, Pasadena College was well known in Dwain Leach’s Grady NM Nazarene Church. The a’cappela choir had been there and two cross-state New Mexico basketball players, Ted Cummins and Doyle Cozzins were making quite a name for themselves with the Firehouse Five basketball team.

When Leach arrived on the campus of Pasadena in 1953, he anticipated joining fellow athletes in the basketball program. He made the freshman basketball team and then varsity as a sophomore. He played baseball as a sophomore and junior. Though he participated in the athletic program, Leach saw his diminishing playing time in both sports. He made the decision to concentrate on other collegiate interests after those two years. But he still remained loyal in his interest of Pasadena College sports.

Leach has been a part of, or a spiritual follower and key supporter of the athletic program from his college days and on. During the past 15 years, even with the school moving more than 100 miles south of his residence, he has been an intricate part of Crusader-Sports Associates. He has served on the Board of Directors for four three-year terms as both president and vice-president. Leach has been a member of the golf committee continuously and has worked the golf tournament for more than 12 years.

Leach teamed with his son, Kenton, to form the most outstanding data-gathering team in converting the golf scores annually for the W.S. Brown Golf Classic. The scores are complied and have not been late a single time for the awards banquets that follow each of the opening and closing rounds. This often required Leach to miss work, which he did without any reservations.

Leach spent most of his professional career as a principal in the Garden Grove School District and as a supervisor at Disneyland. He is married to a former graduate of PC, June Crews and the couple has three other children in addition to Kenton: Kevin, Keith and Kristin.

The award for Outstanding Achievement in Meritorious Service was presented to Leach by Bob Brower.
