While the Firehouse Five was stealing the headlines in the early ‘50s, a distance runner named Bruce Webb was leading the rapid advance of Pasadena ’s fledgling track and cross country programs. A versatile performer, Webb had a hand in several Crusader track records and also led PC’s march to the top of Southland small college cross country competition.

Dormant for six years, the PC cross country program was reinstated in 1952 with Webb as the top runner. The sophomore standout won five out of PC’s six races and finished second in the Southern California AAU Cross Country Championships. For the next two years Webb remained the ace runner on the improving Crusader cross country unit.

Webb excelled in the mile run, his premier event in his four years on the Crusader track squad. He also set a school record in the two-mile run and anchored a record-breaking PC mile relay effort in 1954. In 1953, Webb finished third in the NAIA National Track and Field Meet in Abilene, TX in the two-mile, becoming the first ever track All-American to come out of Pasadena.

Webb went on to become the Director of Admission at Northwest Nazarene for 15 years.

The award for Outstanding Achievement by an Athlete was presented to Webb by Jan Barnard.
