Hall of Fame
Chad Swank attended Point Loma Nazarene University from 1992-1996 graduating with honors, a distinction research project, and Magna Cum Laude. If there ever was the perfect description of “student athlete” surely Chad Swank’s name would be listed there.
As a freshman in the fall of ‘92, he was named Rookie of the Year and made second team All NAIA District 3. As a defensive specialist he scored his only collegiate goal in a win against NCAA Division 1 opponent Loyola University of Marymont. The team also beat the University of San Diego coming off a national NCAA DI Championship runner up year under the lights at Torero Stadium,
Chad was widely recognized by opposing coaches as the finest defensive soccer player in the region. This was demonstrated in his junior year when as team captain he was selected first team all GSAC, 1st Team All West Region, 3rd team All American and 1st Team Academic All American. Here on campus he was named the Meguiar Memorial Outstanding Male Athlete award winner.
Chad culminated his career as the senior captain helping the team (among other victories) to defeat a Seattle Pacific University team that had not lost a home match in 30 plus consecutive efforts. Playing honors included 1st team GSAC, 2nd team NAIA Far West Region, Academic All American, the GSAC A.O. Duer Award winner, the San Diego Hall of Fame and playing in the GSAC All Star game at season’s finish. He had a great playing career.
Chad has continued his scholarly pursuit as a professional completing the Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy at Regis University in 1998 and is currently pursuing a PhD in Physical Therapy Neuroscience Rehab. This professional career has taken the family to Colorado, Michigan, and Texas where they currently reside.
Chad and fellow P.E. major Teralyn Layton were married in 1996. In 2003 Makaila was born and Cole joined their family August 18, 2006.
