Occasionally in athletics we see people who embody grace, power and kinesthetic harmony in everything they do, even their normal routine. Connie Navarro was one of those people.

A potential three-sport collegiate athlete, Navarro and her high school coach arrived one summer day to talk about Point Loma. None of the coaches for her sports were around, though she did meet someone who was willing to talk to her about the school and who helped her to apply. At least three college coaches were grateful for the recruiting job.

On the volleyball court, spectators were in awe of Navarro’s tremendous leaping ability for four years. She established records in kills, received the team MVP award, was named All-GSAC and All-District Three and was chosen

Following one year of basketball, Navarro decided to concentrate on volleyball and track. As an outstanding track and field athlete, she broke and set several school records. She was the district champion in the heptathlon, long jump and javelin in 1989. That same year she received All-American honors at the NAIA National Championships in the heptathlon and broke the school record for points. After that, Navarro was the obvious choice for the CSA Outstanding Female Athlete Award. Navarro was greatly respected by all her peers while maintaining a level of fierce competition. When her time was up as an athlete, Navarro continued to work with the team and also worked as the phone sales office manager for San Diego Communications Inc.

The award for Outstanding Achievement by an Athlete was presented to Navarro by Jim Bond.
