Dave Latter became involved with the athletic department when he was a student, playing on the basketball team in the 1948 and 1949 seasons. It happened to be the same time that Pasadena College was establishing its heritage. It was no wonder that Latter developed a fondness for the program after the team went 37-16 in those two years.

Latter’s other strong tie to the department came via Herman H. Price, who worked in the department in the ‘50s and ‘60s as chairman of the faculty athletic committee. Price’s daughter Dorothy became Latter’s wife after meeting through school sports functions.

In 1970, when Barry Meguiar was president of the Crusader’s Club, there was a major campaign to raise scholarship funds. Though the club fell short of the goal, they were pleased to establish the Moorhouse Foods annual athletic scholarship, a $2,000 per year gift. Latter and his brother George, vice-presidents at Moorhouse, continued the scholarship for over 12 years. His only request as to how the money should be used was that it go to someone who needed it most.

When Latter’s daughter, Deborah-Ann attended the school, she kept up the family’s interest in Crusader athletics, marrying Gary Smee of the tennis team.

The award for Meritorious Service was presented to Latter by Dal Olin.
