Hall of Fame
Playing for the Point Loma golf team for four years(1993-97), Ryan Carr established himself as one of the all-time best golfers in Crusader history. Coach Ben Foster recognized his talents and competitive spirit, placing him in the number one spot as a freshman—a position Carr held throughout his collegiate career. A clutch performer who proved to be best under pressure, Carr always responded to the challenge of facing the opponent’s best player as illustrated by his number of high individual finishes in major college tournaments.
In three of the four seasons he competed for the school, Carr was named the Crusader Team MVP. Found in the Point Loma record book in many places, he held three of the top 10 scoring averages for PLNU golfers. His 1995 average of 75.3 was the best of his totals, including the 1994 season (76.6) and the 1997 season (76.1). His career average of 76.4 ties him for fifth in school history, though it was second at the time.
Carr’s tremendous skill on the links earned him regional and national recognition while at PLNU. He was named to the All-Region teams and was an Honorable Mention All-American in 1997 after a 25th place finish at Nationals.
“Ryan was an outstanding college golfer,” Coach Foster said. “He was talented, possessed a tremendous work ethic and had the perfect temperament for tournament golf. He handled pressure situations with ease and his course management was superior. His easy-going manner was always evident. The tenacious competitor inside was revealed on the golf course. Ryan was always a gentleman and a picture of consistency on and off the field.”
The award for Outstanding Achievement by an Athlete was presented to Carr by Bob Brower.
