In her former coach Jerry Arvin’s words Robin Leafblad is, “the finest female track and field athlete I have ever coached.” She is also one of the finest female athletes in the history of PLNU and in the Golden State Athletic Conference. In four years of competition from 1997-2000, Robin dazzled opponents, coaches, teammates and spectators with her performances on the track, setting records and earning numerous honors.

Robin still appears in the University record books in multiple categories. She owns PLNU’s 100 meter hurdles record, is in the top 10 in the 100 meter dash, the 200 meter dash, the 400 meter dash, the long jump, the triple jump, the javelin and the heptathlon. She was a member of the record setting 4 x 100 meter relay and the 4 x 400 meter relay teams.

Robin was a NAIA All-American a school record five times culminating with a silver medal in the heptathlon in 2000. She also earned 10 conference championships and was an All-GSAC athlete in 20 events. In 1999, Robin was chosen as the Point Loma Sports Associates Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year.

Robin played a major role in PLNU winning four straight GSAC women’s team titles. At the 2000 GSAC Championship meet she put together the finest individual performance in conference history when she tallied 78 of Point Loma’s 271 points. She scored in eight different events, winning six of them and finished second in two others. She won both hurdle races and set the GSAC record in the 100-meter hurdles at 13.81.

After graduation, Robin joined the PLNU track and field and women’s soccer coaching staffs and expertly served the school in that capacity for three years. She also taught activity and fitness classes in the Kinesiology department.

Robin has completed fire fighting training and anticipates a permanent position shortly in this profession. In waiting, she currently manages several pursuits: a paid call volunteer firefighter in San Bernardino County, an Exercise Physiologist teaching in the Fire Technology Wellness Program at Santa Ana College and as an assistant track coach at Azusa Pacific.

It is with great honor that we welcome Robin Leafblad as a member of the Point Loma Nazarene University Athletic Hall of Fame as a track and field athlete. Congratulations.
